Successful launch of the price coupling between the Nordic region and Poland


Today the price coupling between the Nordic and Polish energy markets was launched. The capacity of the cable connecting Poland and Sweden (SwePol Link) is now available for the members of Nord Pool Spot and POLPX.

During the third quarter of 2010 the POLPX's trading in electricity increased by 1.408,31% (year-to-year)

In the third quarter of 2010 the POLPX's trading in electricity on the Day Ahead Market (DAM) amounted to 1,890 TWh, while on the Commodity Derivatives Market (CDM) - 8,622 TWh. So, the total electricity trading volume during the period mentioned above amounted to 10,512 TWh (year-to-year increase 1.408,31 %) - what composes circa 27% of total electricity production amount in Poland during the third quarter of 2010.

GDF SUEZ is the first foreign market maker on the Polish Power Exchange

GDF SUEZ, through its wholly owned subsidiary Electrabel, has signed a market maker agreement with the Polish Power Exchange.

As a market maker, GDF SUEZ will be responsible for maintaining the market liquidity by placing sale and purchase orders for instruments noted on POLPX Commodity Derivatives Market (CDM).

Vattenfall Energy Trading the first market maker on the Polish Power Exchange

Vattenfall Energy Trading has signed a market maker agreement with the Polish Power Exchange. The company shall be the first market maker after so called "exchange obligation" has come into force. The duty of a market maker is to maintain liquidity by placing sale and purchase orders for instruments noted on POLPX markets consistent with rules and regilations specified by the Exchange.

Brokerage houses at POLPX's electricity markets

Due to amendments to the Energy Law which came into force on the 9th of August 2010 and changes in the act on excise, all brokerage houses can become members of the Polish Power Exchange and represent their customers on the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) and Commodity Derivatives Market (CDM). First members of DAM and CDM are brokerage houses BOŚ and NOBLE Securities.

Nordic-Polish collaboration to open the SwePol Link for market participants in both countries


In March this year the Polish and Swedish transmission system operators, PSE Operator and Svenska Kraftnät (SvK), signed a joint declaration to work for a market opening of SwePol Link, the 600 MW HVDC cable between the two countries, as soon as possible.

For the first time in Poland, KNF grants license to operate a clearing house and a settlement house

Today, the Warsaw Commodity Clearing House (IRGiT) has obtained from the Polish Financial Supervision Commission (KNF) the license to operate a clearing house and a settlement house. This license authorizes clearing and settlement of transaction on financial instruments, concluded on the regulated exchange market and OTC transactions. IRGiT is the first company in Poland to have obtained such a license.
