GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and Polish Power Exchange S.A. begin collaboration in order to create a gas exchange market in Poland Print +

GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and Polish Power Exchange S.A. are beginning collaboration regarding the creation of a gas exchange market in Poland, in accordance with the provisions of the Third Energy Package and the regulations of the European Parliament and of the Council on Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT). As part of the collaboration, working groups have been formed in the companies, which will prepare legal, organisational and technical solutions aiming at starting gas trade on an exchange. Currently, a draft of the Transmission Grid Operation and Maintenance Manual, allowing the introduction of a trade hub (a so-called virtual point) and collaboration with POLPX S.A. is being prepared. The proposals of changes to the Manual will soon be presented to the participants of the market for consultation.

"Gas trade on an exchange is one of the elements of building a competitive gas market. Together with the Polish Power Exchange S.A., we would like to make such a solution available to the participants of the gas market in Poland soon and contribute to its liberalisation," said Jan Chadam, the President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.

"The process of creating a free gas market is a complex one and requires the cooperation of all its participants. Similarly to PSE Operator in electrical power engineering, GAZ-SYSTEM is the most important element of the technical logistical infrastructure of the gas market, while POLPX is the most important element of the commercial infrastructure, which guarantees the transparency of the conducted transactions. The beginning of the collaboration by both companies is an important step towards the liberalisation of the Polish gas market," adds Grzegorz Onichimowski, the President of POLPX S.A. Management Board.
