Deputy Minister of Energy, Grzegorz Tobiszowski, during the speech addressed to the media representatives, stressed their role in educating and informing the public.

‘Despite the fact that most of the awards went to journalists who have been dealing with the energy and gas markets for years, it should be emphasized that the texts produced by newcomers to this field are truly outstanding. That is why this year's session of the Jury was far from unanimous. From the point of view of the energy market regulator, I am very pleased that such a difficult area attracts professional interest and a growing number of journalists. They are the journalists who, through their work in the field of information and education, explain the meanderings, complexities and details of the processes taking place on the electricity and gas markets, and the energy sector in general, in the context of economic, social and political reality’ said Beata Wereszczyńska, the Chair of the Award Committee.

The Committee evaluated the works of 20 journalists according to such criteria as their informative value, accuracy, form, clarity, quality of journalism and educational value. The winners of the 4th edition of the ‘Platinum Megawatts’ Media Competition are:
•    Aneta Wieczerzak – Krusińska from the editorial team of Rzeczpospolita/Parkiet, who not only received the title of the Journalist of the Year 2017 but also an Honourable Mention for the best publication on the electricity market in the Year 2017.
•    Justyna Piszczatowska from the editorial team of WysokieNapiecie.pl, who received an Honourable Mention for the best publication on the gas market in the Year 2017.
•    Piotr Pająk from the editorial office of Gramwzielone.pl, who received an Honourable Mention for the best press material on the property rights market in 2017.
•    Wojciech Krzyczkowski from the editorial team of WysokieNapiecie.pl (currently with the Polish Press Agency), who received a special award from the Award Committee for his credibility, professionalism and analytical approach to energy issues.

‘The challenges facing our industry are enormous and the directions of development are currently being set, and the decisions taken are widely commented on by the public. The opinions are certainly influenced by the information provided by the media community. Therefore, it is not only about the integrity but also the responsibility of the journalist for published content’ said Piotr Zawistowski, President of the Management Board of TGE.

The competition makes part of the ‘Platinum Megawatts’ undertaking which has been organised by TGE since 2010 and is intended to recognise the most active companies and brokers operating on the exchange-based wholesale market for electricity, natural gas and property rights. In 2014, the organiser broadened the initiative to include a competition for the media aimed at promoting s public debate and spreading knowledge concerning the power and gas industry as well as energy efficiency.
