Joint Statement of the NEMOs’ Chief Executive Officers

Today

24-03-2026

As the Chief Executive Officers of the Nominated Electricity Market Operators (NEMOs), we reaffirm our strong commitment to working together in the operation and continuous development of integrated European electricity markets.

Through our close cooperation, we successfully implemented and operate the Single Day-Ahead and Single Intraday Coupling. Market coupling has demonstrated clear benefits for the European economy by promoting efficient price formation, enhancing competition, improving security of supply, and maximizing social welfare. By enabling electricity to flow to where it is needed most, market coupling ensures an efficient use of generation resources and delivers tangible benefits to consumers, businesses, and society as a whole.

Beyond the European Union, NEMOs are also actively supporting the extension of market coupling to Energy Community Contracting Parties. This cooperation directly contributes to the Energy Community’s objectives of market integration, regulatory convergence, and economic development. Extending market coupling to these countries strengthens regional market integration, supports investment signals, improves system efficiency, and enhances social welfare by fostering transparent, competitive, and reliable electricity markets.

Together, we remain committed to deepening cooperation with the European Commission, ACER, transmission system operators, national regulators, and all relevant stakeholders to further develop integrated electricity markets that support economic growth, social welfare, and the broader energy transition — both within the European Union and across the Energy Community.
