TGE is getting ready for autonomous operations as a power exchange-operator on MRC market in PCR model

•    Towarowa Giełda Energii is getting ready for autonomous operations on the Multi-Regional Coupling market in the Price Coupling of Regions model
on the Poland’s borders with Lithuania and Sweden.
•    The new SAPRI system by NASDAQ shall enable TGE to join the PCR project both as an operator and market coordinator.
•    TGE joined the MRC market in July 2015 and it has been handling the trade on the day ahead market for couplings with the power systems of Sweden and Lithuania.

Within the upcoming weeks, Towarowa Giełda Energii shall start operating as a legitimate power exchange and coordinator on the European MRC market. It is a result of a few years of preparations and cooperation with Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne and with the Energy Regulatory Authority. Currently, legal and technical preparations are performed to enable TGE to start operating autonomously on the MRC market in the PCR market coupling on the Poland’s borders with Lithuania and Sweden in cooperation with three power transmission grid operators (PSE, SvK and LitGrid) and two exchanges (TGE and Nord Pool). The new functionality shall enable TGE to join a restricted group of European exchanges and provide it with an opportunity to effectively compete on the exchange services market. In the future, a similar solution shall also be implemented on the other borders of the Polish power system – currently project studies are carried out by several entities which operate on the Central European market within the framework of the CORE Project.
TGE has been cooperating with Nord Pool power exchange with respect to power energy auctions since 2010, that is from the moment the PCR market coupling model was introduced for SwePol Link (Sweden) and then for LitPol Link (Lithuania) (December 2015).

In Q2 2017, TGE, along with the Polish market participants tested new IT systems, SAPRI application, which is to be used only for power trade on the day ahead market. Although prices in PCR model are calculated in EUR, SAPRI makes it possible to transfer to TGE members orders placed in PLN.

We predict that the new transaction system shall be launched in November 2017 and that the participants shall be informed about the exact date three weeks in advance.

TGE joined the Multi-Regional Coupling market in July 2015. MRC is a Pan-European project whose purpose is the integration of power energy markets in Europe. It consists in implementation of the market coupling mechanism for cross-border day-ahead markets in cooperation with power exchanges and operators.
