The Exchange awarded the ‘Platinum Megawatts’ to the most active companies and brokers operating on the exchange market in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the statuettes are presented during individual meetings.
In 2019, TGE reached major milestones in the development of electricity and gas markets. At the same time, it was another record-breaking and successful year as TGE continuously increased its share in the trading volumes on the electricity and gas markets as in this part of Europe. The volume of transactions on the electricity markets in 2019 totalled 228.9 TWh (1.3% growth y/y), while volume of natural gas trading increased to 146.1 TWh (2% y/y).
‘The year 2019 was a year full of events that will drive further development of the Exchange. The projects implemented in both on the national and European level are beginning to bring impacts, which we are particularly pleased about. This also confirms the strong position of TGE and the validity of our slogan « At the heart of the Central European power and gas trading » – a healthy and steadily beating heart, especially for our region, thanks to which we are looking with increasing confidence at competitive areas. To sum up such a good year, our commitment towards the market is not to lower the bar. We know that 2020 will bring new challenges, especially in the context of the changing reality. However, we want our clients to always be aware that they are key to us because it is with them that we have been building the exchange market for the last 20 years. We congratulate all the winners of the ‘Platinum Megawatts’ and I hope that soon we will meet in all together to celebrate future events, not only on the exchange market but also in our clients’ business areas’ said Piotr Zawistowski, President of the Management Board of TGE.
After the successful implementation of the day-ahead market trading platform in 2018 based on the PCR model, in November 2019, the Exchange entered the pan-European intraday energy market based on the XBID model where further records of members’ activity were immediately. A month earlier, TGE started trading guarantees of origin for electricity generated in high-efficiency cogeneration sources within the framework of the Guarantees of Origin Register. The year 2019 was also a time of intensive preparations for the launch of an Organised Trading Facility (OTF) and renewal of the Nominated Electricity Market Operator’s (NEMO) licence. The Exchange concluded last year with the establishment of the Market Council with the participation of industry experts, which now allows it to benefit from knowledge and experience that would be difficult to develop in-house.
The ‘Platinum Megawatts’ will be presented to the winners for the 10th time. Summing up the year 2019, TGE honoured 8 energy companies, including 2. brokerage houses and 7. brokers operating on the electricity, gas and property rights markets. The following companies were recognised:
