Guarantees of Origin and the participation in the Guarantees of Origin Register (GOR) maintained by TGE have been very popular in recent years, as best shown by the quickly growing number of register members.
In the first year of its operation, after it was launched on 3 November 2014, the GOR had 56 entities, at the end of November 2021 there were already 1,000 of them, to reach 2,000 at the beginning of June 2023.
The underlying idea of the guarantee of origin of electricity, as an instrument of the EU’s environmental policy disclosing the types of sources and fuels from which electricity is produced, is to give companies an opportunity to demonstrate their care for the environment. Accordingly, they are used by players that wish to increase the share of green energy in their consumption, in order to cut emissions or reduce the carbon footprint.
Next to the Certificates of Origin Register, the GOR is another TGE’s solution offering instruments that support RES-based electricity producers and co-generators. Importantly, the range of instruments available in the GOR will soon be extended to include heat, cooling, biomethane and hydrogen installations.
