• On 20 June, Towarowa Giełda Energii announced the results of 3rd edition of the “Platinum Megawatts” Competition for the Media.
• The Honorary Patronage over the competition has been extended by the Minister of Energy and the President of Energy Regulatory Office. The Competition Partners have been recruited from among institutions which play an instrumental role in shaping the Polish energy sector: PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. (Strategic Partner), PGNiG Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo S.A., GAZ- SYSTEM S.A. and Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A.
On 20 June, TGE recognised journalists who, through their publications, have demonstrated consistent commitment to educating the public on issues concerning the liberalisation of the energy industry as well as the functioning of the electricity, natural gas and property rights markets.
“Building the public awareness and explaining the complexities of the processes taking place in the energy sector in a clear and simple language are key for the consistent implementation of the national energy policy. Therefore, the Ministry of Energy supports such initiatives as the Platinum Megawatts competition addressed to the media, which contributes to the education of the large community of energy consumers” – said Edward Słoma, Chair of the Competition Jury, Deputy Director of the Power Sector Department in the Ministry of Energy.
Among the journalists who have been awarded “Platinum Megawatts” there are:
• Justyna Piszczatowska from the editorial team of WysokieNapiecie.pl, who received the title of the Journalist of the Year 2016 as well as a Honourable Mention for the best publication on the electricity market in the Year 2016,
• A Honourable Mention for the best publication on the natural gas market in the year 2016 went to Wojciech Jakóbik from BiznesAlert.pl
• The winner of a Honourable Mention for the best publication on the property rights market in the year 2016 was Małgorzata Dragan from the Polish Press Agency.
“GAZ-SYSTEM together with the Jury and Partners of the “Platinum Megawatts” Competition pursue a common strategy. It is aimed at building new growth prospects for the Polish energy market. No real change can be achieved without objective and reliable journalists who advance superior professional standards and substantive debate” – said Artur Zawartko, Vice-President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.
The Jury composed of the representatives of Honorary Patrons and Partners of the Competition carefully reviewed 37 publications looking into, among other things, their informative value, substantive correctness, form and clarity of presentation, or critical and educational value.
“Market education, particularly in such a difficult sector as energy industry, should be a priority for its participants. We are glad that together with our Partners we have the opportunity to promote professional journalism. The level of knowledge and understanding of the developments taking place on the market depends largely on the media. Nobody but journalists are an everyday source of information we analyse and rely on in hour daily work. We congratulate the winners and everybody who participated in the Competition” – said Dr Paweł Ostrowski, President of the Management Board of TGE.
The Competition makes part of the “Platinum Megawatts” initiative which has been organised by TGE since 2010. The awards are regularly granted to the most active companies and brokers operating on the exchange-based wholesale market for electricity, natural gas and property rights. In 2014, the organiser broadened the initiative to include a competition for the media aimed at promoting s public debate and spreading knowledge concerning the power and gas industry as well as energy efficiency.
